Wat

A map of Wats and Pagodas in Cambodia including those visited and planning to visit. For the most part, these are pagodas connected with ancient sites and those visited along the journey in between. It’s a relatively small map considering that according to the Ministry of Cults and Religion (via Khmer Times), Cambodia has 5,104 Buddhist pagodas with 70,905 monks!

Wat Thourm Rangsey

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located by the Mekong river in Stung Treng. Immediately north is the remnants of the ancient site, Ba Chong/Prasat Pros.

Thalaborivat Pagoda

Located just north of the Preah Ko Temple site, Wat Thalaborivat is a contemporary monastery and pagoda located right beside the Mekong River.

Wat Lbak Khaon

Located on the Cambodia-Laos border, in Preah Vihear province, Wat Lbak Khon is located about 1km south of the spectacular Preah Nimith Waterfall. Wat Tuol Andet

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located in Choam Khsant, Preah Vihear. According to signage, the pagoda we see today dates to 1955, whilst the site itself may have an even older history. The pagoda features beautiful murals internally and externally.

Wat Trapeang Sangke

A contemporary monastery and pagoda (date: 2000) located in Romdoh Srae Commune of Choam Khsant district, Preah Vihear.

Wat Tmat Beauy

Contemporary monastery and pagoda housing several ancient temple remnants.

Wat Po Seilaram

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located at the foot of Phnom Tbeng. Also recorded as Phosiraram Pagoda.

Wat Po Damnak

Po Damnak Pagoda is a contemporary monastery and pagoda located in the village of Kdak. Just short of 2km north of here is the ancient temple Prasat Kdak.

Wat Samlanh

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located on the southern side of Phnom Tbeng.

Wat Srey Sranos

A contemporary monastery and pagoda located at the southern foot of Phnom Tbeng, near the village of Srey Sranos. The monastery is under redevelopment with a new pagoda in the process whilst another wooden vihara can be seen a few minutes walk up the mountainside. A contemporary monastery and pagoda/vihara located in the village of Tabas, about 10km north of Preah Khan of Kampong Svay.

Wat Svay Damnak (Rovieng District of Preah Vihear)

A small contemporary monastery and pagoda located in the village of Svay Damnak Thmei in Rovieng District of Preah Vihear. The monastery houses a collection of ancient artifacts including boundary markers that would at first appearances date to around the 12-13th century. Wat Preah Krasang (Kampong Svay)

Contemporary monastery and pagoda that retains its older traditional wooden salaa and vihara whilst a new pagoda is under construction (01/23)

Wat Talek

Ccontemporary monastery and pagoda housing remnants of an ancient temple site. Here can see some Buddha statues and sema stone likely from the post-Angkor era and remnants of an ancient site including a Buddhist boundary marker.

Wat Peoung Preah Kou Preah Keo Mean Rith

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located at the foot of Phnom Tbeng

Wat Prasat (Stoung, Kampong Thom)

Also recorded as Wat Prasat Svay Chrum, located in Stoung district of Kampong Thom, its a contemporary monastery and pagoda housing remains of an ancient temple site. Ancient remains seen include a lintel and sandstone plinth. The village here is quite beautiful and nearby is the Prasat Ampil Rolom.

Wat Sovannkiry (Phnom Dek)

Contemporary monastery and pagoda housing a seemingly ancient boundary marker

Wat Tangyu (Phnom Tbeng)

Also recorded as Wat Tang You and “Rock Top Pagoda”, it’s one of Cambodia’s most unique pagodas, built atop a rock monolith, and a popular hiking area featuring several waterfalls on the eastern side of the massive Phnom Tbeng Meanchey of Preah Vihear. Wat Koulen Promh Tep 

Contemporary monastery with a slightly older style pagoda and a shrine to the legendary local monk of Tbeng mountain, monk Soung (Khmer: សួង).

Wat Srayong

Contemporary monastery and pagoda that features an ancient “mile marker”/boundary stone. According to a local passerby, there were once two and they originate from somewhere far to the northeast of the pagoda.
