Wat

A map of Wats and Pagodas in Cambodia including those visited and planning to visit. For the most part, these are pagodas connected with ancient sites and those visited along the journey in between. It’s a relatively small map considering that according to the Ministry of Cults and Religion (via Khmer Times), Cambodia has 5,104 Buddhist pagodas with 70,905 monks!

Village Vihara

An old-style village prayer hall located east of a river and along the raised route from Koh Ker to Prey Veng village.

Wat Tomnup Thmei (Oddor Meanchey Province)

A contemporary monastery and older style wood columned pagoda under restoration at the time of visiting (01/23). A passable dirt road leads past here that connects to the major north-south arterial to the east, and to the west it connects to Tel Village (Preah Vihear).

Wat Phnom Tel (Srayang)

Located in Preah Vihear province near the border of Siem Reap and Oddar Meanchey atop a small mountain (Phnom Tel Khmer: ភ្នំតែល), it’s a contemporary monastery and pagoda with an older style wood columned vihara and more modern pagoda that offers superb views across the plains below and to the mountains in the distance. Wat Otakok

Contemporary monastery with an older wooden vihara and new salaa buildings under construction (01/23)

Wat Trapeang Khat

Located in Svay Leu district near the Siem Reap-Preah Vihear border, it’s an older wood-columned vihara with several meditation huts/monks quarters that have recently been refurbished.

Wat Toek Lech 

A contemporary pagoda that is located west of Beng Mealea and near the ancient sites of Kuk Troap, Daun Chan and Ta Phou. On the pagoda’s east side, fragments of a pair of small lions can be seen. It’s possible that they originated from the nearby Prasat Kuk Troap.

Wat Pursat (Siem Reap)

Labelled on Google Maps as Two Pursat Pagoda, it’s a monastery with a relatively new pagoda. A small shrine beside the pagoda houses a number of remnants, some look old, some look ancient, in particular, what looks like the head of Avalokiteshvara. Contemporary monastery featuring remnants of an ancient site. Wat Khmera

Located in Pouk, the grounds are large with many colourful and bright gold stupas. The pagoda features many murals and porched entrances. Images: March 2025

Wat Svay Thom

A colorful temple that features outer and inner murals, detailed pediments with Vishnu riding the garuda, and beautiful naga fans that are quite detailed front and back. The roof is also quite unique.

Wat Kong Moch

A smaller peaceful monastery featuring an ornate pagoda with beautifully decorated doors and pediments. Wat Svay Romiet

Also known as Svay Romiet Pagoda, it is located in a scenic spot by the southern edge of the West Baray.

Wat Takiet

A contemporary monastery and pagoda that was built on the location of an ancient site with the outline of the original moat still seen, along with remnants of the ancient temple including a sandstone pedestal.

Wat Ampil (Pouk – Siem Reap)

A contemporary monastery and pagoda housing some interesting remnants of an ancient temple. Among those remnants are the remains of one rather large sandstone pedestal, and several others nearby the monk’s residence.

Wat Lberk

Monastery and contemporary pagoda in Pouk Siem Reap featuring several grand stupa. The site also retains two sandstone pieces in a small shelter that may or may not be from an ancient temple site.

Also known as Wat Sothyro Ratanaream, it’s a contemporary monastery and older pagoda with scenic spots and a stupa and shrine that overlooks a stunning natural karst landscape and the lush green fields below.

Wat Prey Phlu

Also known as Wat Trapeang Rong, it’s a uniquely small pagoda surrounded by ornate sema stones.

Wat Tang Kork

Also recorded as Wat Samdech Chortanhean. A contemporary monastery with a three-level pagoda, located in Baray District

Wat Chea Lea 

A contemporary monastery and pagoda split over two levels of a small mountain featuring nice views and several shrines along the mountain crest.
