Contemporary monastery and pagoda located atop Phnom Borvong, about 12 km south of Pursat. The mountaintop features several attractions, all related to the pagoda. Wat Phnom Baktra

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located 15 km south of Pursat. It has recently been renewed and is quite pretty with a beautiful location on the mountainside.

Wat Sbov Rik

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located 25 km south of Pursat. It is one of the older pagodas in the area and features notable pediments along with murals on its inner walls.

Wat Keo Vichey  

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located 7km north of Pursat city. On our visit in Aug 2023 there is a massively tall construction underway behind the pagoda, let’s wait to see what it becomes.

Wat Banteay Dei 

Located in central Pursat city, it’s an older pagoda retaining its original inner murals, decorative pediments, and features. I am not sure of its exact foundation date, perhaps what we see dates to around the mid-1900s. Also known as Turtle Mountain Pagoda, it is west of Phnom Sampov and on the north foothill of Phnom Krapeau (or Crocodile Mountain), about 15km south of Battambang. Wat Khsach Pouy 

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located around 7km south of Battambang central and on the west of the Sangker River.

Wat Khveng

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located on the east side of the Sangker River and about 5km south of Battambang city. It’s noted as having been founded around or before the 1800s. Unusually, the pagoda we see today, built in recent times, sits on a north-south axis as opposed the the usual east-west axis.

Wat Chheu Khmao (Battambang)

Wat Toul Ta Ek

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located on the west side of Battambang city. It’s very ornately decorated with a low-height outer wall rendered with Buddhist Angkorian-era iconography, and the exterior pagoda walls are decorated with murals depicting local Buddhist narratives.

Wat Ta Mem

Contemporary monastery and pagoda, located on the east side of the Sangker River and about 4km south of Battambang city. The pagoda is a contemporary double-story while most interesting are the monumental gates of the original pagoda, three on a north-south axis, which were under restoration on our last visit in Aug 2023.

Wat Buon Muk

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located 7km south of Battambang city and to the east of the Sangker River.

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located on the southern side of Battambang central and west of the Sangker River.

Wat Pacha 

Contemporary monastery and pagoda in central Battambang, located on the east side of the Sangker River and east of Wat Sangke.

Wat Kor

Contemporary monastery and pagoda that was founded in the early 1900s, located on the southern side of Battambang central. It is one of the more beautiful pagodas in Battambang featuring lush grounds and a pagoda of the classical Battambang style with a few quirks all of its own. Wat Kuntakod

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located on the east side of Battambang city, just north of the airport strip. The monastery grounds feature several stupa and chedi with the pagoda finished in luminous gold, nicely contrasted by its deep red walls.

Wat Po Veal – Battambang (Wat Bovil)

Also recorded as Wat Bovil. Contemporary monastery and pagoda in the heart of Battambang city, east of the river, and south of Wat Po Knong.
