Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium – Ticket Prices and Transport

Located 26 km east of Siem Reap along National Road 6 and near the village of Damdaek, the new Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium opened on November 1st, 2022. Featuring a 500m3 aquarium featuring freshwater species as well as a 600m3 saltwater aquarium. The main aquarium building houses freshwater species that are endemic to Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam. There are also 10 hectares of outdoor animal exhibits and attractions including tigers, river otters, civets, crocodiles, and more.

The project emphasizes education as well as providing an entertainment venue catering to international tourists visiting Angkor Wat and the Siem Reap area.

You can spend around 2 hours here walking around the circuit that first leads indoors and through the aquarium sections and then to the cafe, and another aquatic section before leading outdoors to the tiger exhibit. The cafe is priced at local prices (eg, $1.50 for a coffee and $2 for a pizza, croissant, etc.) and offers a large glass window onto the tiger exhibit making it quite a nice space.

In the outdoor area, there are several more exhibits including another chance to see the tigers from the other side of their enclosure, plus a moon bear, civets, otters, and more. There are also a couple of stalls selling snacks and ice cream, plus a large greenspace area with huts to relax in before heading around to the crocodile exhibit.

I would suggest it’s not the best experience, at least for foreigners, to visit this site during the very busy local holiday periods as it gets far too crowded in the confined areas to read any of the info boards or to relax and admire all the different species. However, in normal periods, I think you could easily spend more than two hours here and have a nice experience, learning new things, and, when combined with a stop at the temples of the Roluos area, it makes for a really nice day, more on that further below. Most staff speak English making it easy for foreign guests and I am not sure about other languages. Signage is dual language English and Khmer.

Update October 2023: A new section has just opened, Reptile House features a large array of immersive exhibits including the majestic King Cobra and Monocled Cobra, Siamese Crocodile, Pig-Nosed Turtle, and the colorful Asian Water Dragon among many more.

Getting There

Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium is located around 25km east of Siem Reap on the RN6 just before the village of Damdek. It takes around 30-40 mins by car. You can get price quotes for transport on the Grab or PassAPP apps and you can expect to pay around $16 one way for 1-3 seat passenger car.

Shuttle Bus: They also offer a shuttle bus on Saturday and Sunday (more days during holidays and peak periods, see their Facebook page for updates) that departs from the Tourism Info Center (map) at 10 AM and 2 PM with a return service at 12.45 PM and 4.45 PM, and the cost is an attractive $5 return.

Nearby Attractions

You could also easily include a visit to the Roluos group of temples (especially Bakong, Lolei, and Preah Ko) with a great option for grabbing a bite and relaxing a bit at Bakong My Village.

Around 7km further east along the RN6 from the Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium, in the village of Damdek, is Prasat Banteay Srei (not to be confused with the more well-known temple of the same name near Kulen). It features the remains of a small sandstone temple located on the grounds of a contemporary monastery and pagoda. Also nearby is Wat Lorm Broleng which is one of Siem Reap’s older pagodas.

Along the RN6 there are several ancient bridges and temple ruins to be seen and a bit further east in Kampong Kdei is the grandest of the ancient bridges, Spean Praptos.
