Kampong Thom Province

A map of attractions and ancient temples sites in Kampong Thom Province Cambodia. Kampong Thom is home to the UNESCO World Heritage listed Sambor Prei Kuk group of temples and several other significant ancient sites including Prasat Andet, Prasat Svay Ier, Kok Nokor Temple, Phnom Santuk and many more.

Wat Tang Kork

Also recorded as Wat Samdech Chortanhean. A contemporary monastery with a three-level pagoda, located in Baray District

Preah Teat Tuol Phlong Stupa

Contemporary monastery and pagoda featuring a wooden stupa as a memorial to the victims of the Khmer Rouge.

Wat Ruessei Cheah

A beautiful old contemporary monastery and pagoda that’s under restoration (as of mid-2022)

Wat Prasat Svay Prei

Contemporary monastery and pagoda that houses ancient remains including two lintel fragments, spouted pedestal, decorated door column fragment, and sandstone plinths.

Wat Enteak Komar

Also recorded as Vat Eng Khna, Wat Prasat Noren Enkoma, Neak Vihear, and other names. It is a site where stunning ancient temple remains were found in the 1900s and today features a beautiful old wooden vihara that is demarcated with ornate sema stones. To the east is a large basin. Wat Banak

The contemporary monastery also recorded as Banork Pagoda houses several ancient remnants including a reclining Buddha atop the balan. It’s noted that two pre-Angkorian Buddha statues were found here (also see Cisark #1349). Dalet also recorded an ancient Buddha statue seen here noting it as “early Khmer art” (6-7th century) Inscription References

Contemporary monastery

Wat Bon Ban Dei

A small monastery where the pedestal of an ancient site is also seen with contemporary sema stones surrounding the pagoda. The site is not marked as an ancient site and at the time I wasn’t able to establish the origins of the pedestal. A mystery to solve for the next passerby.

Remains of an ancient site located on the grounds of a contemporary monastery. The collection of remains includes numerous laterite blocks and sandstone remnants including pedestals, door frames, a decayed and broken lintel, sema stone, and other pieces.
