How much is a day pass to Angkor Wat?

Angkor Wat is the UNESCO-listed ancient temple located near Siem Reap that has been rated as the world’s top travel destination and by many as one of the world wonders, so, how much does it cost to visit?

A one-day pass is available for $37 USD including a full day’s access to Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples. You can also get a free extension by purchasing the ticket in advance (the day before and after 4.30 pm) allowing you entry that night to see the sunset at Pre Rup or Bakheng Temple for example.

You can also purchase a three-day pass for $62 USD and a seven-day pass for $72 USD.

Can you see Angkor Wat without paying?

All international visitors are required to have a valid ticket which is checked at the park border, at the gate to the temple, and possibly by any of the numerous temple staff. There are also fines for entering the park area without a ticket.

Why is Angkor Wat so expensive?

In 2017 day pass tickets rose from $20 to $37 as the management of ticket sales was transferred from Sokimex Group back to the government. At the time the price rise caused great concern as to whether it may deter tourists, but numbers kept improving. Services and amenities also improved enormously and keep improving.

Comparatively, Angkor together with Siem Reap city offers incredible value for money, especially when considering the whole package of transport, accommodation, food, and ticket as a total cost.

In 2019 they took in around $99 million from 2.2 million visitors. $2 per Angkor Ticket goes for the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital Fund with ticket sales and income declared publicly and managed by APSARA under the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

In 2000, ticket sales were around $1m rising to $99m in 2019, and with the pandemic in 2020, sales fell to $18.6m.

You can spend from $20 a night and up for a very respectable room in a clean hotel. From $40 a night you can start to find 4 and five-star hotels. Siem Reap offers incredible value for money in this regard.

A good local meal in the city center will cost around $4 so you can expect to spend around $15 a day on food, plus whatever other entertainment and activities you may enjoy. As a rough guide, you can spend $40-100 a day and cover your expenses inc. accommodation and be quite comfortable.
