Wat

A map of Wats and Pagodas in Cambodia including those visited and planning to visit. For the most part, these are pagodas connected with ancient sites and those visited along the journey in between. It’s a relatively small map considering that according to the Ministry of Cults and Religion (via Khmer Times), Cambodia has 5,104 Buddhist pagodas with 70,905 monks!

Wat

A contemporary monastery and pagoda on the western side of Phnom Srok.

Wat Baup

A contemporary monastery and pagoda on the eastern side of Phnom Srok. Nearby the chedi there is a collection of older sema stones.

Wat Snuol

A well-kept contemporary monastery and pagoda also houses a small collection of ancient temple remnants that may originate from nearby archeological sites. Remnants include two fragments of pink sandstone decorated door columns, a collection of older sema stones, and what may have been a sema pedestal.

Wat Pradak

Contemporary monastery and pagoda also known as Wat Thamikaram Korkthom Meanchey. Also featuring shelter housing remnants of an ancient temple including sandstone pedestals and fragments thereof.

Wat Srey Rongit

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located north of Prasat Svar Ier. Near the pagoda there are several remnants of an older base sema (the domed piece), a fragment of what may have been a decorated door column of an ancient temple, a sema pedestal, and what may have been a partially completed stone carved post Angkorian … Read more

Wat Prey Pros (Chi Kraeng District)

Contemporary pagoda and monastery located in the plains just north of the Tonle Sap featuring remnants of an ancient site. I couldn’t correlate the site to any of the older inventories, but that doesn’t mean it’s unknown, unless, it turns out to be Prasat Phung Phang from Lajonquire’s 1902 inventory. En route to temple sites, … Read more

Wat Sambor (Srayang)

Contemporary monastery with an older wooden vihara. To the northwest of the pagoda are the remnants of an ancient temple site with only a scattering of laterite blocks to be seen atop a mound and nearby what may (or may not) have been a laterite-lined basin.

Wat Chas Prey Veng

The old wooden pagoda and salaa. I believe nowadays the monk resides a little further north in a new salaa. Stored here is an unusual Buddhist boundary marker.

Wat Pyuor Chruk

Contemporary monastery and pagoda located just northwest of the village of Pyuor Chruk.

Wat OuChunh

Contemporary monastery with a new sermon/prayer hall and a wooden vihara.

Wat Or Russey Veng
