Wat Boeung Tbong

Contemporary monastery and pagoda that features remains from an 8th-century site and some from the post-Angkorian era of the 15th-19th century.

The collection is incredibly fascinating, including the lintel that appears to still retain rendering in one of its medallions, if it is, that is something quite incredible. Other remnants include a moonstone, sandstone plinths, and fragments stacked beneath a contemporary statue of King Jayavarman VII. Several decorated base sema, a fragment of a sandstone post-Angkorian Buddha statue, and small leaf-style sandstone sema are accumulated beneath a contemporary statue of Avolokiteshvara. In front, two sandstone slabs have received slightly unusual relief carvings of Buddhist characters. Nearby are further fragments of Buddha statues.

At this time, no historical notes have been discovered but it would appear the location was known to French researchers in the 1930s a local onsite indicated the pagoda may have been replaced with what we see today around the 1940s. When I find something I’ll add it here.
