Terrace C – Angkor Thom

An uncleared site located in the scrub of Angkor Thom. Terrace C, a name used in early French maps from the 1900s, is located immediately west of a small basin known as the Trapeang Rondas Thlong.

Covered in overgrowth, the east-west axis of the terrace can be noted, laterite blocks that lead down to the basin in the east while at the western end a raised sandstone structure, in ruin, with several pedestals seen.

Early French notes by Henri Marchal report the terrace size to be 20 m x 8.5 m, plus the presence of fragments indicating a naga balustrade, fronted by a Garuda. He mentions a very damaged bull statue, and a large circular lotus decorated base that he believed would have been the base to a large egg-shaped stone piece (unbloomed lotus flower). He also mentions remnants of a crudely developed wall that may have originally been dressed with sandstone (or plaster?).

It would also appear that there are carved pieces from an earlier period which adds to the curiosity.
