Wat Peung (Khvav)

Also recorded as Peung Pagoda and Peung Bak Roteh. Located in Khvav near the Siem Reap Preah Vihear border it’s a monastery atop a natural rise of the area featuring a vihara built atop a large rock monolith. It’s a sacred place for locals and also the wider area with many making the bumpy journey up to the site, which is a surprising oasis among the wilderness of the slightly remote area.

The site also features a large array of ancient temple pieces, at the time, no one was too sure of their origin. Those include a large array of naga balustrade fragments, boundary markers, decorated door columns, and other fragments spread across three areas.

Notes: the site can be reached by following the ancient road out of Khvav towards Preah Khan until you reach a fork then taking the left route. As of 01/23, it’s a slow bumpy trail, moto and SUV will be OK, taking around 1 hr from the fork.
