Banteay Meanchey Province

Banteay Meanchey Province is located in the north-west of the country bordering with Thailand. The capital city of the province is Sisophon while the most visited city in the province is Poipet due only to being the location of main land border crossing into Thailand.

Popular attractions in the province include Banteay Chhmar Temple, Ang Tropeang Thmor, Banteay Neang, Banteay Torp, Kang Va Basin, La Ang Phnom Touch, Phnom Bak, Phnom Chuncheang, Phnom Svay, and Ang Tra Peang Thmor.

Anlong Ta Our

Group two mounds. No vestige apparent.

O Thom

A mound here pedestals and female representation were found.

Ampil Toek

Mound on which found a sandstone fragment and some laterite blocks surrounded by a moat.

Kôk Phnov

Mound where laterite pieces were found

Phum Phnom

Village with no vestiges apparent.

Kamnap (Phumi Srah Reang)

Large mound, surrounded by a moat, with a basin in the east, where one can see a block of sandstone and shards. (Cisark)

Neak Ta

Mound with laterite blocks on which was placed a shelter Neak Ta with fragments of sandstone.

O Thmâ Dâp

Great mound with houses, with no apparent trace.

Kok Balang

Large mound with a shelter Neak Ta containing sandstone and laterite fragments.

Damnak Dangkao

Mound with sandstone and laterite blocks seen

Kanhchan

Mound where laterite blocks were found.

Yeay Tei

Mound where a block of sandstone was seen.

Kôk Prasat Temple

Ruined brick temple with only laterite base, pedestal and sandstone blocks to be seen according to reports. Featured a moat and basin in the east.

Prasat Smak

Prasat Russei Srok

Ruined brick temple, with moat and basin in the east

Prasat Srah

Prasat Kon Kriel

Scant remains of a brick temple, with moat and basin in the east.

Prasat Chhkae Sraeng

Wat Po Vineay Rok

A well-kept contemporary monastery where pedestals from an ancient temple were found. I didn’t see those but did note the laterite blocks used as a feature of the entrance gate where there was also a fragment of an incomplete pink sandstone door column.

Phnom Kon Khlaeng Temple

Also recorded Phnom Kaun Khleng Temple, it’s the remains of a group of four ancient brick temples surrounded by an outer laterite enclosure wall with entrance gopura.
