In Pictures: The Siem Reap Giant Puppet Parade

The annual Siem Reap Giant Puppet Parade (Khmer: ទីងមោងយក្ស) took place February 22, 2025 with crowds of locals and visitors lining the streets for the joyous event. It’s hard for us to miss it as it passes right by our home base in Siem Reap!

Preparations for the event begin three weeks in advance with over 800 students from local schools participating to create the amazing monumental animated puppets. The parade itself starts around 6.30, departing from in front of Wat Damnak, then heading along Achar Sva Road, Road 26, Achar Hem Chieu Road, Road 24, crossing National Road 6, across the bridge, making their way to the park beside the Royal Independence, Gardens by around 8 pm. The puppets remain on display for a few days following.

The event has been running for well over a decade with a loyal following of fans and supporters of this fantastic community project. You can keep and updated and find out more about the project on their Facebook page and see here for more events in Cambodia.
