Wat Moni Reaksmey (& Crocodile Mountain Cave)

A contemporary pagoda located on the western foothill west of Phnom Krapeau (or Crocodile Mountain), about 15km south of Battambang. It is also the site of the Crocodile Cave.

There is a trail leading to the site that comes off the Kampong Muoy Road just west of Wat Phnom Andoeuk and then a flight of stairs that leads up firstly to the cave entrance and then up top. At the top of the hill is a pagoda where there are wonderful views out to the north, over the plains, and to the mountains beyond. Down the stairs, but not all the way, there is the cave entrance and a short trail that leads through the mountain and back out, returning to where you started at the entrance.

In the cave, there is a natural “cella” used by monks for meditating and a small shrine with a beautiful small Buddha statue of the early-mid 1900s style.
