Wat Kandal (Chi Kreang)

Contemporary monastery and pagoda that is perhaps one of the more stunning in Siem Reap Province. It’s located in Chi Kreang Commune, a very charming area that stretches along the riverside, see more about the Kampong Chikreng area. The monastery features an elaborate outer wall similar to that of Wat Preah Prom Rath in Siem Reap and the site features several buildings of colonial-era style. There is also a small collection of remnants of an ancient temple, likely gathered here for safekeeping from nearby sites.

The remnants likely come from the nearby ancient sites to the east, where nothing remains today, they are Prasat Beng South and Prasat Beng North.

Colonial-style buildings are quaint but the first in the series of photos below is not as old as it looks.
