Located on the west bank of the Tonle Sap River and east of the RN5 in Kampong Luong Village, Kandal, Wat Kampong Luong is a contemporary monastery and pagoda and, an important heritage site. The pagoda features very beautiful murals and decorative features, the site also houses an array of Buddhist statuary, I believe it replaced an earlier pagoda.
The monastery grounds are lush featuring several sculptures, and a large Chinese stupa as I believe there is a modern connection with a monastery in China. Moreover, the site houses the remains of a Chinese monk, Bin Hoin, deposited in 2015 to fulfill his wish of having his bones spread across the five nations of Buddhism. The chief monk is also one of the leaders of Buddhism in Cambodia.
