Wat Kambao Or

Located just north of Spean Khmeng on the ancient East Road that joined Angkor to Preah Khan of Kampong Svay. Wat Kambao Or is a contemporary Buddhist pagoda featuring several ancient road markers. The ancient road markers seen here are similar to those seen near Spean Praptos on the Southeast Road and others at Wat Srayong near Koh Ker.

There are three of these bollards, which stand over 1.5m tall, featuring a top that is curved on four sides, coming to a point at the centre that has what may have been a lotus bud or button-like ornament. One of these bollards has been carved on one side with a figure that is too decayed to decipher apart from it having 3 coils at its base, indicating it was likely a seated Buddha on Naga. Laterite blocks surround the pagoda, and I do not know whether they are ancient or contemporary. No one there at the time knew much about them, but it seems reasonable to think they are from the nearby Spean Ta Ong or Spean Khmeng.
