Wat Angkor Tung Knong

Located east of the RN 6 in Baray District, the site is moat moat-surrounded mound featuring a contemporary shelter/shrine and a collection of ancient sandstone remnants from a temple that once existed here.

The collection of remnants includes mostly pedestals, some of a slightly unusual nature which may have been masonry altered when the site transformed into a Buddhist Terrace/vihara, sometime in the post-Angkorian era (15th-19thc) or just after, noting the sema fragment and a sema pedestal. There are also two sets of feet and a torso of a small statue that may mate with one of them.

There is a caretaker who lives at the site or enjoys having a beer or two there at least. You can access the site via either of two trails, barely noticeable, that lead off the RN 6, both were partially flooded but passable on our visit in September 2023 on tour T22.
