Unnamed Hill Shrine – Angkor Thom

Located in an uncleared area of Angkor Thom, west-southwest of Preah Palilay this presently unnamed site is rectangular and constructed in laterite with what appears to be a porch leading westward.

It sits on a large raised mound/hill effectively becoming an island. On the same raised “island”, a permanent basin constructed in laterite and sandstone is also seen.

Gallery

Inside the shrine is a curious, but unfinished devata sculpture and a yoni similar to something seen at Bakheng, multi-piece, of the type pictured below. The linga is not to be seen.

This area of Angkor Thom is quite fascinating to study with further curiosities as eluded to in a previous post Beyond Angkor Thom’s Royal Palace – The Royal Citadel, Forgotten Shrines, and a Mystery of Form and Function.
