Trapeang Srangae

Also recorded as Sra Nge Temple and Prasat Srane. Remains of a group of three small square brick temples and a site where several inscriptions were retrieved plus an inscribed stele. A representation of Ardhanarishvara (composite male-female of Shiva and Parvati) and two representations of Ganesha were also found here. The three brick shrines open to the east and are fronted by the remains of a small “library” building (or firehouse?) and a gopura indicating the site also featured an outer wall. A moat then surrounds the site which fills during the wet season.

You can also spot the remains of three lintels here, one is broken but in quite amazing condition otherwise, another is broken and decayed, the third sandstone plinth in front of the north tower, laying face down, is assumed to be a lintel.

Several inscriptions are recorded here found on the doorframes and including that of the stele found in the central tower. The inscriptions are reportedly from different time periods, some in Sanskrit and some in old Khmer. The inscriptions are quite fascinating, speaking of the king, Indravarman, and his “fire priest”/guru Nandikacaryya and the sacred fire, with others noting the granting of an ashrama and land (T. S. Maxwell & D. Soutif).
