Trapeang

We came across this on our supplementary Feb 2025 tour along the ancient East Road. On satellite imagery, I thought it looked a lot like a moat-surrounded mound and was worth stopping by, considering it’s right by the road. What we did see, only due to the area recently having been backburned, was an ancient boundary/mile marker. It is similar in size but a little stylistically different to other markers that are seen in the Kampong Kdei area of Siem Reap and those seen at Wat Toap Chey and Wat Kambao Or. On its top, it features a lotus flower (sometimes labelled a rosette) similar in style to those seen on temples from the 11th to 13th c. It is around .5m wide and deep and maybe 1m tall by what is exposed.

So, was it a temple or a basin? I am not sure! No other remains were seen, but we didn’t go diving through the overgrown areas for safety reasons.
