Toek Chha Kuk Toch

Also recorded as Kuk Toch and Preah Theat Toch, it is located 300 m north of the large sprawling complex of remains, Preah Theat Tuk Chha Temple. Overgrown (at least in early 2022), it’s an elongated structure, not a temple, but another type of functional building that early French researchers noted as “dwellings” or “palais”. These structures are seen located adjacent to many of the larger ancient temple complexes mostly seen in Preah Vihear Province of Cambodia and not seen elsewhere. Other examples include one at Preah Theat Preah Srei, Kuk Srei near to Neak Buos Temple, one beside Prasat Khnar (Kala Peas), and several others all featuring similar layout with minor differences.

When considering the size and layout, palace is not what first comes to mind. Other things that first come to mind are some kind of ceremonial building or a place for meeting or paying homage to the King when he visited, while the more educated minds of researchers speculate they may have been hermitages or ashrama. Perhaps they were also complemented by wooden structures we don’t see today. Yet another great wonder. Update: read more about these “palais”
