Ta Puong Temple

Partially standing laterite temple. Also recorded as Ta Boun as noted on two occasions in Les sites archéologiques de la région du Bhnaṃ Gūlen

To the northeast of Kantuot, on the right bank of the Aur Dham, stands the very ruined laterite tower of Ta Buon (17); probable starting point of a causeway leading east.

The Ta Nup tower (16) bears little resemblance to the stopover lodges with which Jayavarman VII marked out the main roads of his empire; as for the Tā Buon (17) and Khluń Kar (7) prasads, the total absence of decoration and the simplicity of their structure make it impossible to assign them any date with any degree of certainty. It is not impossible, however, that these three monuments mark the creation further north of a new axis of circulation; on this subject it is not indifferent to note that the new track joining Angkor to Koh Ker by crossing the “Defile of the White Rat pass” not far from these three temples and that other similar monuments have been reported further east on along his journey.
