Also known as Prasat Ta Krabey/Ta Kwai/Ta Khwai and also Preah Tveang, it is a massively tall cruciform-shaped temple located in Cambodia on the border with Thailand. Constructed in sandstone it has an entrance on each side and housed a naturally formed linga. It is believed to have been constructed between the 11-12th century but without inscription or artwork, it’s difficult to know. What is fortunate, is that it is in such good condition and in such a beautiful location.
As mentioned, it never received its final artwork or detailed carving.
You can reach the site from within Cambodia, by getting onto the road that follows the border to the roundabout here, heading north, and taking the next right into the military base checkpoint which they will happily open the gate if it’s not already. Follow the slowly rising concrete path, car or moto OK, for about 8 km until you reach the very end. From there take the short flight of stairs up to the temple.
Not far from here, 12 km to the west, is a must-see especially if you have come this far being Ta Muen Thom Temple, and Prasat Chan on the way there, and around 10 km to the east from this temple is Prasat Khnar.
