Ta En Temple

Prasat Ta En is a very ruinous “firehouse“, which was a common feature along the east and northwest roads of the ancient royal road network. It is believed that they were part of a larger resting place for travellers and pilgrims. It sits 60-100m north of where the ancient East Road once connected Beng Mealea to Preah Khan of Kampong Svay. Around 460m to the southeast is Prasat Pram.

Like other Firehouses, believed to have been built in the 12-13th century during the era of King Jayavarman VII, Ta En features a depiction of Avalokiteshvara in its pediment. It features false windows on its north side and baluster-lined windows on its south side. Unusually, it features balusters in the southern entrance to the main chamber of the shrine.

On the south side of the site is a small laterite-lined pond.

Update 12/2024: the site has recently been cleared.
