Supheap Cheung Temple

Located in Preah Vihear province, about 15km west of Preah Khan of Kampong Svay, Prasat Supheap Cheung is recorded as a “Firehouse”, labelled as Dharmacala by early French research and later Vahnigriha according to the inscription. They were shrines added to the ancient Royal Road network around the 12-13th century during the time of Jayavarman VII, according to the inscription of Preah Khan temple (Angkor). This particular one is along the ancient route that joined Beng Mealea to Preah Khan of Kampong Svay (PKKS)Around 300m to the southeast of this site is Supheap Tbong Temple; the combination of these two temples could be thought of as a Dharmacala, or resting or stopping place along the ancient route.

It is only partially standing in places around what would have been the main body of the shrine. Historical notes kept by the EFEO indicate the site was visited in the 1930s noting it was collapsed at that time.
