Also known as Sampov (Pr.), Prasat Sampeau (ប្រាសាទសំពៅ) is located 22km north of Siem Reap and 16km north of Angkor Wat. It was built in the era of Jayavarman VII.
It is a single lone prasat and is one of the many “firehouses” that lined the original Royal Road that led all the way from Angkor Thom to Prasat Phimai (now part of Thailand). The use of these ‘firehouses’ is still debated with most concluding they were rest houses.
