Preah Vihear Kuk

Also recorded as Prasat Preah Pisnukar and Wat Ba Phnom, the contemporary pagoda sits at the northeastern edge of Phnom Chheu Kach offering views out over the small village below. At the time of visiting (06/22) the pagoda and monastery were seemingly abandoned and unkept. There is a trail that leads further along the crest of the mountain to a small gazebo and further along the remains of a vihara and also a point for a great photo, but again, it’s shockingly littered with bottles and waste. It’s also an ancient site but no remains are to be seen, two inscribed stele were found here by the French in the early 1900s as noted further below.

At the foot of the mountain there are several stalls selling drinks and offering safe parking etc, plus a pagoda and the ancient remains at Preah Vihear Chan, also see the tag Ba Phnom for more sites in the area.

Inscriptions

  • K. 60 – stele – 11 + 4 lines of Sanskrit – ISC, n° VI, p. 38
  • K. 61 – stele – 6 lines of Sanskrit, 1 + 8 lines of Khmer – ISCC, n° LXIII ; IC VII, p. 20
