Wat Prasat Toek Chum

A small monastery with ancient temple remains.

We’d revisit this site in August 2024 and the kind monks showed us a naga corner finial they were housing, and small collection of what appear to be unfinished corner finials just south of the monastery.

In chatting Chanthim asked if they new about our next destination, and ancient bridge to some way the east, which they did not, but then mentioned there was an ancient bridge to south.

With the village chief arriving we went to investigate! He said that it was a wooden bridge that he remembers from his childhood, known as Spean Thom, that connected with the old north east road, then, leading to Banteay Chhmar. All of which predates the modern sealed roads we see today. Is it the mystery road that connected Banteay Chhmar temple to the ancient Angkorian-era Royal Road network? He seemed to believe so. There isn’t any trace of the bridge remaining today, but it’s good to know locals still have the location of it in their hearts and minds.
