Prasat Prohm Tis (Banteay Srei District)

Located along the road that leads to the Kulara Water plant and Wat Preah Ang Choub, Prasat Prohm Tis features a contemporary chedi with a statue of Lok Ta Dambang Dek (Khmer: លោកតាដំបងដែក). On the east side of the grounds is a contemporary Buddhist vihara, demarcated by sema.

Lok Ta Dambang Dek, or “Grandfather of the Iron Staff,” is a significant figure in Cambodian folklore and spirituality. He is considered a neak ta, a guardian spirit or deity that serves as a spiritual intermediary; a fusion of Cambodia’s animist and Buddhist traditions. Lok Ta Dambang Dek is often associated with justice, strength, and the protection of communities. The name “Dambang Dek” translates to “Iron Staff,” symbolizing authority and power. The staff is a key part of his legend and is often depicted in contemporary sculptures.
