O Spean Daek

An ancient laterite bridge that is slowly becoming surrounded by new developments. A new channel that diverts around the ancient bridge has almost turned the site into an island. The “island” is heavily overgrown and not cleared for visiting (2021) make it through the scrub and some of the arches can still be seen from one side that has remained clear of new growth. It is reported to be 20 m long and 5 m wide (Brugier) which appears about right. A modern and empty neak ta shelter sits atop the bridge.

The precarious situation this ASARA boundary marker has found itself in! The bridge is on that “island” which is connected to land from the other side. Note there are a lot of boundary markers in the area suggesting there are other remains, but on the ground, between the new developments/occupation and markers it’s hard to ascertain what areas are actually demarcated.

Wide-angle view of the exposed section of the bridge.
