Mechrey Floating Village

Mechrey Floating Village is located on the northern edge of the Tonle Sap Lake, east of Siem Reap city. It is an alternative destination to the well-visited Chong Kneas for those who want to admire this unique and traditional way of life living on the water. The site is reached by tour boats which depart from the Mechrey Pier located about 30 minutes east of Siem Reap city.

From the pier, which shifts closer to the lake as waters recede during the dry season, the tour boats take a journey along the marsh-flanked canal that goes past the “floating pagoda” Wat Mechrey and then onto the Sangker River and past the houses of the floating village of which there is a northern and southern section, the north section is pictured below while the southern section is a bit longer. There’s also a crocodile farm here too. In all, the boat journey lasts around 2 hours.

Getting There

The pier is located in Kaev Poar Commune of Puok District (See Google Map), about 20 km southeast of Siem Reap, and can be reached by tuk tuk, car, or moto, via good sealed roads. Note, from this pier you can also take a boat to Prek Toal and also to Battambang.

Entry Tickets

At the entry to the pier, to the left of the boom gate, there is a ticket office with set prices for small and big boat options. There’s an additional fee of $2 per person for the Tourism body. The boat tour lasts for about 2 hours. (prices are in USD and obtained 19/01/24)
