Wat Kampong Tralach Leu

Located in Kampong Chhnang province, and is also recorded as Pothi Rokha Ram Pagoda, is a contemporary monastery and pagoda, and an important heritage site.

The pagoda is recorded as having its foundations in 1672 during the turbulent times of the Oudong Era whilst the current pagoda we see today dates to around the 1920s (See AMS Khmer 2022). Also notable is that the site is surrounded by a moat and built atop a base of laterite hefty laterite blocks which may have belonged to an ancient site that preceded even the 17th-century foundation of what we see today. There are further laterite blocks piled up in the northeast corner of the grounds.

The building that precedes the pagoda is quite special too, built on wooden stilts and featuring thatched walls that are rendered with stucco. This building also houses informative displays about the site including architectural diagrams and even a scale model that were produced at the time of the site’s preservation works between 2003 and 2011.

Another highlight of the site is the murals inside the pagoda.
