Firehouse at Ta Prohm

Located inside the outer enclosure of Ta Prohm and preceding the first moat on the eastern side is a single sandstone building which is referred to as a Firehouse, or in some literature as a Dharmasala. In either respect, these firehouses were an important feature along the ancient royal road network. This particular one being part of the road that stretched from Angkor to Beng Mealea.

The windows here are quite intersting, with those below the tower featuring a lintel like feature between the pediment and window which is quite carvenous havinng pillars on both sides. Devata carvings can be seen all around and small garuda seen up around the heights of the tower. The tower features double pediments with images of Lokesvara surrounded by figures in prayer. You can also see tapestery on the door frames in a style typical of temples of the King Jayavarman VII era.
