Dot Sdach Kumlong Temple

Situated atop Phnom Kulen, it’s the remains of a brick temple, located near the River of 1000 Lingas.

Historical Notes

Prasat Doch Sdach Komlong (The cremation sanctuary of the leper king). – We cannot consider as a building of the great Cambodian era the brick building that is designated by this name and which is located about a hundred meters to the east of Pong Kai, on a rocky area, this despite the pedestals that can still be seen there and which, moreover, would not have been in their place in a crematory monument. It is a rectangular construction, measuring 5 meters wide by about 10 meters long, currently without vault or roof, without windows either, with a single opening in the small east face. The bricks, quite beautiful, are bound by a white cement arranged in thick layers, which is not found in any building of truly Cambodian origin.

Lajonquiere, 1911

In the same region there is a ruin of little interest, the Pr. Doč Sdač Komlon’, which Mr. L. de Lajonquière has dismissed, however wrongly. Almost nothing remains of it. It is a small rectangular room, whose bricks of the old model: 26cm×13cm×55cm, of poor execution, are mounted in three layers barely united by a bad blocking.

Parmentier, 1927
