Prasat Chrung (SW)

One of the four prasats that sit at each corner of Angkor Thoms outer wall. This one is located on the southwest corner. This is the perhaps most beautiful of all of the “prasat chrungs” and can be a popular spot mostly only known to locals. It offers beautiful views over the moat and a staircase that leads down from the top of the wall to the moat below. It can be reached by a 20 min walk along the top of Angkor Thoms wall starting at the south gate. It is also another nice spot to watch the sunset of an evening.

Also nearby is Rong Ta Dev (a water outlet that passes through the wall) and the Beng Thom (large basin).

Like the other Prasat Chrungs it once featured an outer enclosure wall, entry gopura, stele shelter and cruciform-shaped sanctuary. The stele that was located here and registered under K. 288 featured 62 lines of Sanskrit on three sides and the fourth side featuring 50 lines and then a further 8 lines which French archeologist George Cœdès noting as containing the names of the authors.

There is another short inscription at the site registered under K.1136 that was left in 1881.
