A short note on reaching a milestone with the mapping efforts. Siem Reap Province now has 1194 temples and ancient sites listed to a reasonable level of accuracy! After pouring through several data sets, research papers, journals, etc, going much further is probably getting a little too granular at least until other regions are brought to a similar level.

It’s important to note here that the goal is to enable people to visualise the scale of the ancient empire and interact with it, be that for study, trip planning with local guides, and inspiring travel plans beyond the traditional tour circuits.
Some map/categorisation features
- you can limit the scope to the village, commune, or district of interest for example Prasat Bakong District or just Bakong Commune or just Thnâl Trang Village
- limit by attraction/temple group such as Angkor, Angkor Thom, temples along the RN6, Roluos group etc
- limit by type such as Ancient Bridges, Ancient Hospital Chapels & Firehouses, temples along the ancient Royal Roads, or just the Angkor Beng Mealea Royal Road – there is still a lot of data to be added to make these useful but you get the idea.
Features to be added
- Visually distinguishing visitor prepared sites from uncleared sites, privately occupied sites, mounds only etc
- Improved menus and accessibility to the data sets
- Easier error reporting
There’s still a lot of data to add, and likely a lot of ommissions and errors so please do shout out if you see them via https://fb.me/helloangkorkh
