Night markets, craft markets, street markets, Siem Reap has them all and more and I am going to show where they are, and introduce the local traditional markets for a slice of the Khmer local life.
Let’s start with the central markets, which focus have a strong tourist focus but also serve the local community.
Tourist and Craft markets
Made in Cambodia Market
Just as the name implies, featuring locally made crafts and produce. It’s a must-visit. This market area has a much more relaxed feel, with the market stalls nestled amongst several cafes and restaurants it’s a comfortable place to hang. They also have live performances on weekends. Location: Kings Road next to Hard Rock Cafe.
Old Market (Psar Chas)
Featuring a traditional Cambodian meat, fruit and vegetable market at its center with tourist shops around the outer perimeter selling local wares and lots of clothes. There are lots of copy brand clothes but also local artworks, silver, and crafts. Located in the city center near Pub Street on Psar Chaa Road.
Siem Reap Art Centre Night Market
A large market that starts to open up after 11am featuring compy brand clothes, lots of sportswear, along with some local wood crafts. Located along the riverside it offers much the same goods as the other markets. Can be much more relaxed than other markets, and prices may be a little cheaper. Across the river from Old Market and you can take a walk bridge across the river to get between the two.
Angkor Night Market
http://angkornightmarket.com – Lots of stalls and surrounded by eateries, it’s open from 5 PM to 12 PM featuring local wares, paintings, crafts and lots of t-shirts and clothes. Located along Angkor Night Market Road about 4 minutes walk from Pub Street.
BB Angkor Market
Located at the entry to Pub Street beneath the Triangle Bar there’s a cluster of market stalls flogging t-shirts and elephant pants. There are also 3 silver shops in here, selling locally made products from Cambodian silver a couple of restaurants either side and foot massage shops.
The Ln Market/Night Market
Also in the Pub Street area, and across from BB Angkor Market, there is another market that runs along “the Laneway”. It goes until late in the night and sells a lot of shirts, scarfs, some bags etc, but its worth a look as there are some interesting shops in the laneways that come off this one. Siem Reap Night market
Located on Sivatha Avenue near to Pub Street, this market has a foot massage shop, local Khmer products, and t-shirts, gym wear etc. Inside the market, there is an open foot massage area where you can lounge on chairs and watch performances on the stage. This is where to watch the famous nightly, and free, ladyboy show.
Noon Night Market
Yes, there’s a lot of night markets! Selling similar lines to the other markets including shoes, t-shirts, etc. Noon Night Market occupies the street that runs off Sivatha Blvd connecting to Angkor Night Market. I know that won’t make any sense so please check the map below 😀
Full Moon Night Market
Smaller market with mostly touristy t-shirts. There is a BBQ restaurant out front and they usually have nightly live performances. Sivatha Road near Lucky Mall.
Boxville
A new market featuring restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and shops. Fires up at night and is still in the early days of establishing itself. It is also home to Angkor Eye and Light of Angkor.
Local Markets – the center of daily Khmer life
Psar Leu Market
It’s where locals shop for daily needs. You could call it the local version of WalMart, it’s massive and has everything locals need and use in their daily life. Wet Market, vegetables, hardware, DIY, homewares, jewelry, clothes and fashion, and much more. National Road 6.
Palm Container Night Market
Built on a large site the relatively new market is geared towards locals featuring stalls selling cheap clothes, shoes, and homewares. There are lots of activities for kids, several eateries, and BBQ stalls, and even a stage where there are regular performances. Some events here on weekends and special events are quite popular with the locals.
Road 60 Market
The market stalls line either side of the road making for a hustling bustling area. Featuring mostly goods for locals, like shirts and shoes, accessories, all cheap. Its also a great place to try out genuine local food with many sit down food stalls also lining the road – Road 60 just past the Angkor Ticket Office.
Phsar Samaki Vegetable & Fruit Market
Loads of fresh fruit right out front and you’ll see a lot of Chinese tour buses stopping here being a popular thing after a days outing to grab some fresh fruit. Inside the market, you’ll find vegetables and homewares, hair salon, clothes stalls, and some other wares. In the late afternoon, the market winds down and street food stalls take over.
Phsa Nhae Market
It’s a ramshackle sprawling local market with hair salon stalls, show stores, homewares, clothes and more.
Banteaychey Market Vegetable & Fruit Market
It’s located out on the river road and is all fruit and vegetables. While small this market is incredibly popular due to the produce being high quality, locally grown, and organic.
